Flexible Spending Accounts for the Employee

A Flexible Spending account is a type of “savings” account that is taken from your payroll before taxes.  This account is used to help pay for medical and dependent care costs up to $2,650 medical and $5,000 dependent care. Essentially this is a “savings” account that allows you to use tax free dollars for your medical and dependent care costs.

The benefits of having a Flexible Spending Account (FSA):

  • YOU SAVE ON TAXES!!
  • It is free to participate (your employer covers the cost of the plan)
  • It helps pay for medical costs not covered by health insurance
  • Reimbursements are immediately available (Medical only)
  • You can save the money until the end of the year, or receive reimbursements as you incur the costs.

The risks of an FSA:

Depending on your employer, this will either be a “use it or lose it” account, or you may be able to carry over up to $500 of unused FSA funds into next year.

If you do not have the carryover option and elect to contribute more funds to your FSA than you use during the plan year, you will forfeit the difference. Leftover funds will be refunded back to your employer and used toward employee benefit programs. Remember to be conservative in your enrollment.

How do I submit a claim?

Complete the FSA Reimbursement Request Form and submit to the FSA Administrator for processing.

How do I check the balance on my account?

For employees using the My Benny card please login to the Benny Card website. First time login requires the following information:

  • Member ID: cardholders Social Security Number,
  • Card Number: number on Benny Card,
  • Zipcode of address on account.

For employees not using the Benny card, please contact the FSA Administrator.
